Security Imaging
High performance receivers are the largest single cost component of millimeter wave imagers, but MMIC Solutions’ patented technology enables the use of innovative materials and construction, and automatic manufacture, which brings significant reductions in size, weight, and cost. Our range of receivers for W-band passive imaging is outlined below. We are also developing new state-of-the-art modules for security and industrial screening applications: portal, stand-off, and hand-held.
MSi200
Customized mechanical interfaces for the WR-10 waveguide allow MSi200 series modules to achieve a very small form factor. They are believed to be the world’s smallest W-band receivers, and are designed especially for densely-packed arrays to provide high resolution imaging and enhanced threat detection. A high gain Low Noise Amplifier and high sensitivity detector diode plus buffer amplifier also provide these softboard modules with world class performance.
- Direct detection receivers for 80 to 100GHz
- ~0.7K sensitivity @ 1kHz video bandwidth
- World’s smallest form factor: 18 x 8.5 x 5.5mm
- Custom mechanical interface allows module-by-module installation and removal

MSi102
The MSi102 direct detection receiver integrates an industry-standard WR-10 mechanical interface to suit RF feed-horns. A Low Noise Amplifier provides high gain over a wide bandwidth centered on the ‘window’ in atmospheric absorption at ~94GHz. The module uses a ‘softboard’ substrate for minimum cost, size and weight and achieves state of the art performance at 94GHz equivalent to, if not better than, conventional approaches.
- ~0.7K sensitivity @ 4kHz video bandwidth
- Waveguide mechanical interface for flexibility
- Integrated buffer amplifier for ease of use
- LNA Gain >25dB (80 - 100GHz) & zero-biased detector

MSi105
MMIC Solutions’ MSi105 is a ‘connectorised’ module with an industry standard WR10 waveguide mechanical interface. It integrates a low noise amplifier and a zero-biased diode detector to provide a DC output voltage from the noise power received over a wide bandwidth from less than 80GHz to above 100GHz. A buffer amplifier is included to simplify interfacing to the output, and onboard voltage regulation allows operation from a single 5V supply.
- ~0.7K sensitivity @ 4kHz video bandwidth
- Waveguide mechanical interface for flexibility
- Integrated buffer amplifier for ease of use
- Single 5V supply voltage
